Dave Guindon Expert Programmer

Exit splash by Dave Guindon, evidently, is a software that holds the attention of the exiting visitor that normally would never return to your website.  As always it’s great to get a second opportunity to make a first impression and maybe even convince your visitor to buy.

The exit splash software that exists essentially falls into two categories.

Exit grabbers — when the person moves their mouse toward the top of their browser to leave the page a hover window comes in but they can still ask out or type in something else to the address bar because they’re NOT trapped!

Exit lockers are the type which trap you onto the page like a rat a cage. It’s usually a gray window which reminds you of a Windows error screen or a box which looks like the start of a chat session.  It takes two extra steps to click on OK on the first page, then click OK again on the second page when I all I wanted to do was exit the first page.

Now on the flip side as a webmaster like Dave Guindon I do want a second chance to impress the visitors I worked so hard to bring to my site.  So the question is “how do I do this with out annoying them?”

Since you’ve read this far you know I’ve mentioned this a bit earlier but it’s worth repeating.  Make sure the exit splash message you present to them is something they are highly likely to be interested in.  I know some of the websites I visit do a good job and if they do an exceptional job I take notes see what I can apply to my own sites. As ever, make sure you try several varied exits to find which one your clients prefer.
