Why Many Business Websites Don’t Make Money

Posted by affilateguru in Uncategorized

The honest truth is that most websites don’t make money. After business owners invest thousands and thousands of dollars on a fancy website it ends up doing nothing. No one calls, no one emails… and more importantly no one buys.

So what do we do? Here I talk about two huge errors I see with most websites.

Lacking Any Form Of Conversion Process

Many website owners worry so much about traffic they forget the other important part of the formula. Your website should have a clear step-by-step process for converting visitors into clients. Most website owners don’t spend any time thinking about this process.

You’re in for a shock if your plan is to have people just show up and throw money at you. In almost all cases you’re going to have to sell the visitor on your products and services. Don’t like selling? It’s time to get over it.

What most people love about the web (and don’t realise is a huge limitation) is that there is no face-to-face selling. This allows us to put our fears of rejection behind us, bite the bullet and sell stuff. If you don’t manage to get the sale at least your feelings won’t be hurt.

Having a distinct process is the first step to improving your website conversion rate

Missing A Web Marketing Strategy

This leads us nicely to an even larger problem with most websites… lack of strategy. Website conversion is one part of the strategy that’s lacking and the second is generating traffic. Even if your website is great at selling it’s no good if you don’t have any visitors.

So you need to put in place some website traffic generation strategies. These might be things like search engine marketing, social media, video marketing, article marketing and pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. But the important thing is you have a strategy.

Another mistake (and yes I’ve made it) is to run after multiple strategies and constantly changing direction. So in the end you’ve used all the strategies and gotten no traffic because you weren’t consistent. The best way is to choose a few powerful web marketing strategies and apply them consistently for the next few months.

When the first strategies start to get result then you can go and add more. But don’t forget about what got you there. You’ll go far if you just learn to keep doing the basics a little bit better.
